In Loving Memory Of Dr. William Dana Cheslin

January 9, 1948 - January 14, 2024

Dr. William Dana Cheslin, DDS, MD, was born in Detroit, MI to Sigmund and Olga Cheslin of Hamtramck, MI and was the eldest of 3 boys. William was fondly known as "Dr. Bill."

He distinguished himself as a graduate of Brother Rice High School, the University of Detroit, University of Detroit Dental School, and the Northwestern University Chicago Medical School. Graduating with Honors to obtain two medical degrees as both a dentist and physician, Dr. Bill’s career spanned more than 40 years and included practicing a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

After completing a general surgery residency at Northwestern University Hospital, he then attended a residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Detroit. This was followed by working in an established private practice in Bloomfield Hills.

Unwilling to retire, Dr. Bill spent the duration of his medical career on staff at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Detroit. This brought him immense satisfaction. Seeing veteran patients as well as teaching and coaching young oral surgery residents was his labor of love.

Beyond Dr. Bill’s professional prowess, he was always an active athlete. Playing football in high school as well as college, he was an accomplished snow skier and also an avid yachtsman and saltwater fisherman. His passion for his hobbies and sports was his impetus to travel the world, seeking fun and adventure.

Dr. Bill is survived by his lifetime companion and friend, Lynne, two younger brothers, Adam (Sue) and David (Micheline), nieces, Annie (Tim and grandnephew, Luke) and Molly (Christopher), and his dearest assistant, “Gal Friday" Dawn.

Dr. Bill lived a very full and active life and was blessed to enjoy the admiration, friendship, and camaraderie of countless family, friends, and colleagues. He was not a formal person and was comfortable walking through life to his own beat, always with a smile.
